Family, friends, and former colleagues gathered in Tokyo on Sunday to bid farewell to Shigeo Nagashima, the Japanese baseball legend who died Tuesday at 89. ⁢Ninety-six people‍ attended the funeral for the man known as “Mr. Professional Baseball.”

Nagashima,a celebrated hitter and former manager for the Yomiuri giants,was remembered fondly. The altar featured orange flowers, a ⁢team color, along with a⁢ bat ⁤and jersey.

Sadaharu Oh,⁣ who played alongside Nagashima and⁤ later managed the‍ Giants,⁢ delivered a memorial address. He currently chairs⁢ the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.
