florian, Accused in Nahel Merzouk‘s Death, Speaks Out
While his referral to the Assize Court is contested, Florian, the former police officer accused of the murder of Nahel Merzouk, spoke publicly for the first time. He talks about his detention, his psychological state and the threats he received.
Florian, the former Nanterre police biker and author of the shooting wich cost the life of young Nahel, in France, chose to speak publicly through an interview given to the Actu Police website. In this interview published on October 30, he talks about his life as the tragedy which cost the life of Nahel Merzouk, a 16-year-old teenager killed during a road check. As then,the police officer has been facing legal proceedings,the appeal of which will be examined on December 4. “It’s not easy every day, but I remain combative,” he confides.
Incarcerated for five months before being released under judicial supervision, Florian recounts how he tried to hold on: ”I did a lot of sport and reading.” But the experience left its mark: “I could no longer stand the noise from the other inmates (…). The isolation became very heavy, to the point that I talked to myself and walked in circles. but I managed to stay strong.”
Since his release in November 2023, Florian claims to have been receiving medical treatment: “I am being followed by a psychiatrist and I have medication to treat my depressive disorders”.

Although he says today that he works in a new constituency where he feels supported, Florian admits that he is especially worried about his loved ones: “I am especially worried about my family, following the numerous death threats that I have received.I don’t want her to relive…”.
