Nakagami to Replace Marini at Italian GP
Takaaki Nakagami will race for the factory honda team at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello, replacing Luca Marini, who is still recovering from injuries sustained in a Suzuka 8 Hours test in late May.
Honda, having fielded only one rider at Aragon, was required to find a substitute for Marini. Nakagami,a honda test rider, will now partner wiht Joan Mir in the factory garage.
Nakagami transitioned to a test rider role for HRC at the end of last season, after competing with the satellite LCR Honda team. This marks his first race with the official Honda MotoGP team.

Nakagami previously participated in the French GP as a wildcard, finishing sixth. He demonstrated his skill in managing tire choice and timing a bike swap during the race.
Honda’s test rider lineup includes Nakagami, Aleix Espargaro, and Stefan Bradl. Bradl is focused on testing, while Espargaro participated as a wildcard in the Spanish and British GPs. Espargaro has expressed a diminished desire to race.
If Marini’s absence continues, Honda may consider calling on Espargaro, a three-time MotoGP race winner, to fill in.
What’s next
The Italian Grand Prix will provide an opportunity to assess Nakagami’s performance with the factory team and evaluate Honda’s options for future races should Marini remain sidelined.
