The original Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, starring Leslie Nielsen as Detective Frank Drebin, premiered in 1988. drebin foiled an assassination attempt on Queen Elizabeth II. The film’s success led to two sequels: Naked Gun 2-1/2: the Smell of Fear (1991), where Drebin battled a plot to kidnap a nuclear scientist, and Naked Gun 33-1/3: The Final Insult (1994), which saw Drebin out of retirement to stop a crime syndicate targeting the Academy Awards.
