Dengue risk Prompts Mosquito Control Operation in Nantes
A mosquito control operation is scheduled for the night of August 21st to 22nd in the Nantes island district, following the confirmed case of dengue fever in a local resident. The operation, organized by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Pays de la Loire, aims to eliminate tiger mosquitoes and prevent further spread of the disease.
Investigations by the ARS confirmed the dengue case,a viral illness transmitted by mosquitoes that can cause fever,nausea,skin rashes,and joint and muscle pain.The insecticide treatment will be carried out between 1:00 AM and 2:30 AM to minimize disruption to residents.
Residents are advised to remain indoors during the spraying.
Dengue cases have been on the rise globally. The World Health Organization reports that the incidence of dengue has increased 30-fold over the last 50 years, with an estimated 50-100 million infections occurring annually in over 100 countries, putting almost 4 billion people at risk. From 2000 to 2019, reported cases worldwide surged tenfold, reaching 5.2 million in 2019 alone.
