Naomi Osaka’s “Second Set” Documentary Coming to Tubi
Tennis star Naomi Osaka’s journey back to professional tennis after becoming a mother will be featured in a new documentary, The Second Set.The film will premiere on Tubi, fox Corp.’s streaming service, in August.
Producers describe The Second Set as a “love letter” to Osaka’s daughter, shai, offering an intimate look at Osaka as she balances her career with motherhood.The documentary is the first title from a multiyear distribution partnership between tubi and Uninterrupted, Fulwell Entertainment’s athlete-focused division, highlighting sports and culture stories.
Osaka said the film holds special meaning for her. “This film is special to me because I’ve learned so much about life through Shai and she brings me so much joy. I’ll always look fondly on this period of our lives,” Osaka said.
Osaka rose to fame after defeating Serena Williams at the 2018 U.S. Open. Though, her celebrity also brought challenges as she navigated being a top athlete while maintaining her mental health, including dealing with anxiety related to press conferences and on-court confidence. The documentary explores Naomi Osaka’s mental health journey.
The second Set is produced by Nike, Hana Kuma (Osaka’s media company), and The SpringHill Company.LeBron James, Maverick Carter, and Jamal Henderson from Uninterrupted are executive producers. Albert MJ Choi from uninterrupted and Ian Nelson from Tubi brokered the distribution deal.
