Former world No.1 Naomi Osaka pulled out of Friday’s quarterfinals at the Japan Open due to a left thigh injury sustained ⁢in her previous match.

What Happened: The Injury and Withdrawal

Four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka,the top seed at the WTA ⁤250 event,picked up the injury⁣ during Wednesday’s 7-6(6),3-6,6-2 second-round victory over defending champion Suzan lamens. The injury occurred during the course of a hard-fought match, highlighting⁢ the physical demands of professional tennis.

Osaka was scheduled ⁢to face Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian in the quarterfinals, but tournament organizers ‍announced her withdrawal before the fixture.

“Naomi Osaka has not recovered from a left leg injury sustained during the second round of this tournament and has‍ withdrawn from the⁤ quarterfinals scheduled for today,” the announcement read.
