NASA-ISRO NISAR Satellite Releases First Earth Image
The first image of our planet’s surface from an Earth-observing radar satellite NISAR (NASA–ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) has emerged, providing a glimpse of what’s to come as the joint mission between NASA and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) approaches full scientific operations later this year.
“Launched under President Trump with India, NISAR’s first images are a true testament to what can be achieved when we unite around a shared vision of innovation and discovery,” saeid Acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy.
“This is just the beginning. NASA will continue to build on the remarkable scientific advances of the past and present as we pursue the goal of maintaining our nation’s space dominance through Gold Standard Science.”
Images from the spacecraft, launched by ISRO on july 30, demonstrate the level of detail at which NISAR scans the Earth to provide unique and actionable information to decision makers in a variety of areas, including disaster response, ecosystem monitoring, and climate change research.
