NASCAR Teams Face Travel delays for mexico City Cup Series Race

Mexico City is hosting it’s first NASCAR Cup Series race outside the U.S., but travel complications have caused a rocky start. Several teams are still trying to reach the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez after facing travel disruptions in North Carolina.
A chartered flight was grounded Thursday due to engine trouble, forcing teams to find alternative routes. Some personnel drove to Atlanta to catch commercial flights to Mexico.The delays primarily affected Xfinity Series teams, leading to a revised weekend schedule.
Daniel Suarez and some Trackhouse Racing personnel arrived in Mexico City on Tuesday, avoiding the travel chaos. However, the team’s communications director assisted in unloading the trackhouse cars because crew members were unavailable.
NASCAR issued a statement acknowledging the disruptions. “Due to two aircraft issues that grounded multiple race teams in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, NASCAR has adjusted the on-track schedule for this weekend’s activities at Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez,” the statement said.
To mitigate the impact, NASCAR postponed the Cup Series practice session to later Friday. Xfinity Series practice sessions were moved from Friday to Saturday. The first of two NASCAR Mexico Series races was moved to an earlier time on Friday.
The Xfinity Series will have a single 50-minute practice session Saturday morning before qualifying. cup teams will not lose any practice time despite the adjustments.
