Natalie Portman is expecting her third child at age 44 with her partner Tanguy Destable, a French electronic music producer known professionally as Tepr.
The actor announced the pregnancy in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, sharing that she and Destable are “very excited” and that she feels “very grateful” to be welcoming a child together. She described the pregnancy as both “a privilege and a miracle.”
Portman, who shares two older children — son Aleph, 14, and daughter Amalia, 9 — with her ex-husband Benjamin Millepied, said this third pregnancy comes with a different kind of clarity. She noted there is a gratitude that comes with age and experience, saying, “There is a gratitude that when you’re young, you don’t necessarily grasp,” and added that she cherishes every moment knowing it is likely her last pregnancy.
She also spoke about her physical well-being during the pregnancy, saying she has “more energy than I thought I might” and has been staying active through swimming and practicing Gyrotonics, a low-impact method focused on strength, flexibility, and core stability. When it comes to cravings, Portman said she has been leaning into fruit, especially pineapple, and melon.
The actor, daughter of a fertility doctor, has long spoken about her understanding of the complexities of conception. She told Harper’s Bazaar that she has “so many people I love who’ve had such a hard time with it” and wants to be respectful of those experiences while celebrating the joy of her own pregnancy.
Portman and Destable have been spending time in Paris, where she joked that full-term pregnancy is considered 41 weeks rather than 40, saying, “so I guess I get an extra week to be pregnant this time around.”
Her upcoming projects include Cathy Yan’s “The Gallerist,” about an unusual art world caper, and Lena Dunham’s “Good Sex” on Netflix.
