Nate Diaz, a UFC veteran, has left a Russian reality show following a multi-person brawl during filming in Thailand. Jon Jones, the UFC heavyweight champion, was also participating as a coach in the show, which was inspired by “The Ultimate fighter.” The incident and Diaz’s subsequent departure occurred early in production.
jake Shields, a former UFC title challenger and friend of Diaz, witnessed the event. Shields posted a video of the melee on YouTube, providing details of the incident. According to Shields, an unidentified fighter approached Jones respectfully before engaging in a verbal exchange with Diaz. Shields stated that Diaz slapped the fighter after a perceived attempt to grab him, escalating the situation. A punch from someone on Diaz’s team further intensified the conflict, leading to a large brawl.
Shields said he intervened by tackling the fighter, but was then allegedly attacked by multiple people.Shields suggested that some of his attackers appeared to be crew members rather than fighters.
“Right when I started to go off on him, I got just blitzed from the side,” Shields said. “Not where the fighters were, a couple of guys just started blitzing me, which to me seemed like they were crew working there, not fighters, because the fighters were in the chairs. To me, it was very clear that it was the staff and the workers. That was one of those moments where I had better diffuse the situation.”
Following the incident, Diaz’s team left the filming location. Despite attempts by the production team to persuade Diaz to return, his team declined and returned to California.
“Why are we going to go back and film a show?” Shields asked. “It’s one thing to be fighting the fighters, that’s why I went out there with Nate, I thought it was a possibility some of these fighters will try to test him — but when you have potentially the crew hitting you, too it’s like no, f— that.”
Diaz, 40, has been involved in past altercations, including the 2010 Strikeforce: Nashville brawl with his brother nick Diaz and Shields. in 2022, he was removed from a venue after a backstage incident during the Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva event. This latest incident highlights the challenges of managing personalities in the high-pressure habitat of reality television and the potential for unexpected conflicts.
