CREVE COEUR – After a brief stint in Creve Coeur, Nate’s Kosher Deli has closed its doors, preparing for a relocation to Clayton. Mario Smith, Nate’s butcher who previously worked at kohn’s, described business as “okay, but not like before” when Kohn’s was in operation. though, Smith remains optimistic about the move to Clayton, believing it will bring increased foot traffic.
“St. Louis needs to have a kosher butcher,” Smith emphasized. “Who’s going to feed everyone? No one does kosher like Kohn’s and Nate’s.”
Nate’s arrival in Creve Coeur followed the closure of Kohn’s in July, which was preceded by a lawsuit filed by Illinois-based food distributor Mid Town Distribution LLC against Kohn’s ownership company, Bayk Kohns LLC. The lawsuit alleged unpaid bills totaling nearly $150,000 for goods delivered earlier in the year.
