London’s National Gallery to Host All-Night Viewing of “Van Gogh: Poets and lovers”

London, England – Van Gogh fever has swept the nation, prompting the National Gallery to extend its hours for a rare all-night viewing of the wildly popular “Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers” exhibition. The exhibit, which has captivated over 283,000 visitors since its opening on September 14, 2024, is on track to become the third most popular paid exhibition in the gallery’s history.

To accommodate the overwhelming demand, the National Gallery will welcome art enthusiasts overnight on January 17, marking only the second time in its history that the institution has extended its hours for a special event. The first all-night opening occurred in 2012 for the “Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan” exhibition.

“I am delighted that over 200,000 people have visited ‘Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers’ and we look forward to welcoming more people to the exhibition as it comes to its final weeks,” said Sir Gabriele Finaldi, director of the National gallery.

Tickets for the extended viewing hours will go on sale Thursday, offering a unique prospect for art lovers to experience Van Gogh’s masterpieces under the cloak of night.

London, England – The National Gallery is offering art lovers a unique opportunity to experience the world of Vincent van Gogh in a whole new light. “Van Gogh: poets and Lovers,” the gallery’s first-ever exhibition dedicated to the iconic artist, will be open for special nighttime viewings during its final weekend.

“As part of our opening for the last weekend, our visitors will have the rare and special opportunity to experience Van Gogh’s pictures during the night and early hours of the morning,” said a gallery spokesperson. “Following in the footsteps of artists such as Freud, Bacon and Hockney, who came here during those times to take inspiration from the gallery’s collection.”

The exhibition, which closes on January 19th, showcases over 60 of Van Gogh’s works, including loans from prestigious museums and private collections.

The exhibition, which features over 60 of Van Gogh’s paintings, including renowned masterpieces on loan from museums and private collections worldwide, explores the artist’s imaginative transformations of the world around him.

“Seeing Van Gogh’s work at night will be a totally unique experience,” the spokesperson added. “Artists like Freud and Bacon found inspiration in the quiet solitude of the National Gallery after hours, and we beleive visitors will find a similar sense of wonder and connection with Van Gogh’s art in this special setting.”

For those unable to attend in person, the 90-minute documentary film “Exhibition on Screen: Van Gogh Poets and Lovers,” directed by David Bickerstaff, offers an in-depth exploration of the exhibition. Featuring interviews with leading art experts, the film provides a captivating glimpse into Van Gogh’s world and the inspiration behind his masterpieces.

National Gallery members can enjoy free admission to the exhibition. Tickets for the extended evening hours go on sale Thursday and are expected to sell out quickly.
