South Korea marks its first legally designated Korean Food Day on October 24, launching a three-day festival at the National Museum of Korea in Seoul to showcase traditional cuisine alongside modern culinary innovations, The Korea Times reported. The inaugural event, titled Hansik Festa, runs from October 23 to 25 across the museum’s auditorium and Mirror Pond area, bringing together chefs, food creators, and industry experts.
Hansik Festa Brings Master Chefs and Pop-Up Events to Seoul
Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the three-day festival features a diverse lineup of culinary demonstrations and interactive exhibits. Visitors can watch cooking demonstrations led by master chef Lee Ha-yeon, chef Han Shin-hee, monk Woo Kwan, chef Park Joo-eun, and food creators Magic Boy Kim Chef and Eunsujeo. The program also offers cooking classes, a Korean food quiz, cultural performances, a food-and-film talk, company showcases, and restaurant pop-ups serving Korean dishes and desserts. A dedicated flea market provides attendees access to Korean ingredients, tableware, and desserts tied to Korean food culture.
Conference Analyzes Korean Cuisine as a Global Brand
Friday’s schedule features the official Korean Food Day ceremony and an industry conference exploring how Korean cuisine can evolve as both a cultural asset and global industry. Speakers at the conference include chef Ok Dong-sik, Eatanic Garden chef Son Jong-won, producer Lee Wook-jung, Park Hyun-young of the Life Trend Observation Center, and Kim Sook-jin of CJ CheilJedang. Panelists will analyze Korean food’s place in global dining, its emergence as a brand, and the ways food, culture, and media have helped carry Korean cuisine beyond Korea.
Government Officials Detail Policy Goals for Global Cuisine
Oh Jin-hee, director general of public cultural diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry, stated that Korean food was becoming an asset for building connections and friendship with people around the world. Jung Kyung-seok, a top food policy official at the Agriculture Ministry, noted that the festival brings together classic Korean heritage with modern food innovations. It is deeply meaningful to celebrate the very first Korean Food Day together with the public,
Jung said, according to The Korea Times. We have prepared a rich lineup where visitors can enjoy everything from traditional Korean cuisine to innovative dishes and desserts that blend cutting-edge technology with artistic sensibility. We hope many domestic and international guests will come experience the flavors and stories of Korean food.
