[서울=뉴시스] Reporter Lee Ye-seul = Master singer Song Jae-young, holder of the intangible cultural heritage Simcheongga, will perform on the stage of the National Theater on September 21.
According to the National Theater, the September performance of Wanchang Pansori will feature singer Song Myeong-chang singing the entire Dongchoje Simcheongga over the course of five hours.
Born in Imsil, Jeollabuk-do, Song Myeongchang was fascinated by the sound after seeing a performance of traditional Korean music at a market by chance as a child. In 2000, he won the grand prize in the master singer division at the Namwon Chunhyang Festival National Master Singer Competition, and in 2003, he won first place (Presidential Award) in the master singer division at the Jeonju Daesa Ssip Nori.
The pansori ‘Simcheongga’ is about a devoted daughter, Simcheong, who sacrifices herself to save her blind father, and with the help of the Dragon King, who is impressed by her utmost filial piety, her father regains his sight. It is a work that is difficult to carry out the entire story without being quite proficient in singing, as it contains many tragic contents.
Among them, Dongchoje is a song that was established by the master singer Dongcho Kim Yeon-su, the first director of the National Changgeuk Company of Korea, by collecting and refining the strengths of the songs he learned from many teachers.
