NATO Condemns Alleged Russian Drone Strike in Romania

Text NATO and Romania have condemned what they describe as a Russian drone strike that injured two people and damaged a residential building in the city of Galati, marking the first such incident on Romanian soil since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The incident, which occurred overnight on May 29, 2026, has intensified tensions between NATO and Russia, with the alliance vowing to bolster defenses on its eastern flank while Russia denies responsibility. The drone, which struck the roof of an apartment building in Galati, close to the Ukrainian border, triggered a fire and injured a 14-year-old boy and a 53-year-old woman. Romanian officials confirmed the attack, with Defence Minister Radu-Dinel Miruta stating that the serial numbers on the missile indicated it was “undoubtedly” Russian. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the accusation
