Naturally Nimble Stuns with 33-1 Upset Victory at Fairyhouse: Race Highlights & Analysis
Naturally Nimble achieved an unexpected victory by defeating Willy De Houelle in the Bar One Racing Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse. Willy De Houelle, the 1-4 favorite, made his Irish debut under trainer Willie Mullins, while Naturally Nimble started as a 33-1 long shot after a poor performance in his initial hurdle race.
Nimble’s prior flat racing results indicated potential, being a half-brother to the successful German sprinter Namos. In the hurdle race, jockey Richard Deegan rode Naturally Nimble, who positioned himself at the back of the small field. As the race progressed, he caught up with the favorite in the final moments and demonstrated impressive speed to win by a length and a half.
Richard Deegan commented on the race, saying, “He disappointed us a little bit last week, so we said we’d hunt around here and see. He did it well. They went a good gallop, and the race probably fell apart a bit in front of us, and we were there to pick up the pieces. He stayed at it well. He was at a high level on the flat, so hopefully, he can keep coming along. He wants that nice ground.”
Following this success, Naturally Nimble has become 20-1 with Coral for the JCB Triumph Hurdle.
