NatWest Appoints Maja Pantic as Chief AI Research Officer
NatWest, a major UK bank, has appointed Dr. Maja Pantic as its first Chief AI Research Officer.Pantic, a professor at Imperial college London, previously held research director positions at Samsung AI Research Center in Cambridge and Meta London.
Pantic’s new role at NatWest will focus on developing artificial intelligence use cases, notably in multimodal AI. Her expertise will be used to combat deepfake threats and those involving generative AI (GenAI). The bank plans a progressive rollout of AI to simplify operations and improve productivity through new tools.
Scott Marcar, NatWest Group’s CIO, said AI is already helping NatWest simplify its services. he believes AI can transform customer experiences and build trust. marcar added that Pantic’s skills will help the bank adapt to changing customer needs and complement the existing team.
The appointment of a chief AI research officer is the latest step in NatWest’s AI strategy. The bank previously collaborated with OpenAI and rolled out an internal GenAI platform to employees.NatWest reported success with its virtual assistant tools, cora+ and AskArchie+.
