Navarro Family Clarifies Evelyn Mariela’s Death
Family Disputes Claims of neglect in Woman’s Death After Jet Set Collapse
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — The family of Evelyn mariela Navarro de León, who died after being trapped in the Jet set collapse, has refuted claims that a lack of financial resources contributed to her death. Navarro de León received medical treatment for more than 20 days following the incident.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Navarro de león family stated, “Amidst our grief, we want to make it clear that it is indeed entirely false that her death was due to a lack of funds for her medical care. the cost of her treatment exceeded 1 million pesos, which was fully covered by our family, close friends, and with the support of the State.”
According to the family, Evelyn faced meaningful health challenges after being trapped for more than 10 hours in the rubble. “For over 20 days, we fought tirelessly alongside the medical team to save her life, confronting numerous clinical complications resulting from the incident,” the statement read.
The family also addressed what they described as misrepresentations by some media outlets, which suggested that a request for assistance implied abandonment or a lack of resources.
“We condemn the unethical behavior of certain media outlets that distorted a request for help to create sensationalist news, showing no respect for our pain or the dignity of our sister,” the family stated.
The statement reiterated that Evelyn’s death was not due to a lack of medicine or medical resources but rather the severe complications arising from the collapse.

She was a true pillar of our family, and her absence leaves a void in a family that has remained united in grief,” the statement concluded.
