Pandeglang, Indonesia – A shocking case of a rental car owner shot dead has taken a dramatic turn, revealing a complex scheme involving a Navy sailor, a middleman, and a stolen vehicle.
Ilyas Abdurrahman, 48, was fatally shot in a dispute over a rental car. Police have now identified the shooter as an active-duty Navy sailor who was attempting to purchase the vehicle at a considerably discounted price.
According to Kasat Reskrim Polres Pandeglang, Iptu Alfian Yusuf, the sailor had agreed to buy the car from Ilyas for just Rp40 million. The low price, authorities believe, was a major factor in the sailor’s decision to resort to violence.
A Deadly Bargain
The inquiry also uncovered the role of Ajat Supriatna, who acted as a middleman in the scheme. Ajat was tasked with finding a rental car that could be stolen and delivered to IM, a known car thief and fence.”Ajat’s role was simply to find a rental car. Once he had it, he handed it over to IM,” explained Alfian.”Ajat didn’t know where the car ended up after that.”
Ajat was promised a Rp5 million commission for his part in the scheme, but he was arrested before he could collect the money.
Adding another layer to the case, Ajat used a fake identity to rent the car, altering his birthdate and address on his KTP and driver’s license.
A Community in Shock
The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers of rental car theft and the lengths to which some individuals will go to obtain vehicles illegally.
“It’s really tragic for the victim and his family,” said local resident Amelia. “This whole thing just highlights how risky rental car theft can be. And it shows how desperate some people are to obtain vehicles illegally.”
The Navy sailor has been arrested and charged with murder. Ajat is also facing charges related to his involvement in the scheme. The examination into the case is ongoing.
Maya: Did you hear about that Navy sailor who was arrested for shooting a rental car owner?
Alex: No,I haven’t.That’s awful! What happened?
Maya: It’s a crazy story. Apparently, this sailor wanted to buy a rental car for insanely cheap – like, 40 million rupiah – and ended up shooting the owner, Ilyas Abdurrahman, over it.
Alex: Wow, 40 million rupiah? That’s practically a steal! Was it some kind of scam?
Maya: Definitely seems like it. The police think the sailor was working with a middleman named Ajat Supriatna. Ajat found the rental car, and then it was suppose to be handed off to some car thief who fences stolen vehicles.
Alex: So the sailor never even intended to pay the full price for the car?
Maya: It looks that way. The whole thing was supposed to be a robbery, basically, but it went horribly wrong. Ilyas was killed in the process.
Alex: That poor man. It must be devastating for his family.
Maya: Absolutely. And the community is shaken up, too. This kind of violence is shocking, especially when it involves someone in the Navy.
Alex: What about Ajat? What happened to him?
Maya: He was arrested too, before he could collect his 5 million rupiah commission. He used fake ID to rent the car, changing his birthdate and address.
Alex: This whole thing sounds like a tangled mess. It’s really sad that someone lost thier life over a deal gone wrong.
Maya: Yeah, and it just goes to show how desperate people can get,and the risks involved in illegal activities.
