Navy Veteran finds Fulfillment in Giving Back at Los Angeles VA center
Los Angeles, CA - For Navy veteran Joseph Huber, service doesn’t end with discharge.Every day, Huber dedicates his time to the Los Angeles Ambulatory care Center (LAACC), providing vital support to fellow veterans.
Huber, who served four years aboard the USS Planning, began volunteering at the LAACC in 2011. What started as a three-day-a-week commitment quickly blossomed into a near-daily dedication.”It’s very rewarding, working with all the veterans,” Huber says, his voice filled with genuine warmth.”It’s very engaging.”
Huber’s role within the Center for Progress & Civic Engagement (CDCE) involves providing essential office support. He works alongside a team of dedicated volunteers, many of whom, like Huber, are veterans themselves.
“All my fellow volunteers are my favorite,” Huber shares, “They’re all brothers.” He holds a special fondness for Army veteran Ron Hughes, a long-time volunteer who Huber admires deeply.
Huber’s commitment to service extends beyond the LAACC. He previously volunteered at a clothing memorial, assisting nearly 200 clients monthly by providing new clothing essentials.
Pamela Keith, Chief of the CDCE, praises Huber’s unwavering dedication.”For 11 years, Joe has consistently demonstrated extraordinary dedication and professionalism,” she says. “His warm and welcoming personality, coupled with his remarkable ability to connect with everyone he meets, makes him an invaluable asset to our team.”
