Opera House Reception
President Karol Nawrocki recently discussed an incident that occurred during a visit to the Grand Theater of the National opera in Warsaw on November 29, 2023. The event marked the 200th anniversary of the laying of the theater’s cornerstone and the 60th anniversary of its reconstruction. The gala was hosted by Grażyna Torbicka.
Whistles During Greeting
While being greeted by Torbicka during a televised broadcast, audible whistles accompanied the applause from the audience. President nawrocki stated he only became aware of the dissenting reactions after reviewing video footage of the event. He initially perceived the atmosphere as entirely positive, noting he and his wife only heard applause at the time.
“We were greeted in a civilized manner with applause, and then I saw in the video that several people actually whistled,” Nawrocki explained. He questioned whether the opera house was an appropriate venue for what he described as a “stadium atmosphere.”
Unheard Opposition
The President emphasized that neither he nor his wife were consciously aware of the opposition while in the theater, as the applause effectively masked the sound of the whistles. This highlights the potential for differing perceptions of events based on individual vantage points and auditory experiences.
