The Timberwolves defeated the Pistons 123-104, but the score was overshadowed by a second-quarter altercation that led to seven individuals being tossed from the game.
Tensions Flare at Target Center
The incident occurred early in the second quarter at the Target Center when Minnesota’s Naz Reid took issue with a foul committed by Detroit’s Ron Holland. According to witnesses, Reid gestured aggressively toward Holland, and the situation quickly escalated. Donte Divincenzo and Holland became involved, leading to a larger scuffle with players from both teams mixing near the spectator area.
Ejections Handed Down
After order was restored, referees issued ejections to seven individuals. Minnesota players Divincenzo and Reid were ejected, along with detroit’s Marcus Sasser, Isaiah Stewart, and Holland. Pistons coach JB Bickerstaff and Timberwolves assistant coach Pablo Prigioni were also ejected.
Coach Finch: “We Saw Him Coming”
Following the game,Timberwolves coach Chris Finch commented on the physicality. “I found before the incident that the match was too physical,” Finch said. “We can say that we saw him coming.” Several media outlets reported that a child was caught up in the chaos near the court. Alex Rodriguez, co-owner of the Timberwolves, reportedly gave the young fan a Naz Reid jersey.
bickerstaff Defends Players
Bickerstaff, after his ejection, stated he was “in the same boat” as his players. He added, “Their coach assistant said certain things. We defend each other, I don’t let my players be insulted. I don’t think I have crossed the red line and won the situation, but I understand the position of the referees.”
