Manila, Philippines – Vice President Sara duterte has been summoned by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for a second time to explain her controversial statement about ordering someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. if she were to die.
The NBI confirmed that Duterte is scheduled to appear on December 11th. This follows her initial summons for November 29th, which was rescheduled at her request.Duterte’s remarks, made during a public address, sparked outrage and lead to an investigation into potential violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.The investigation centers around allegations of grave threats against president Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Duterte’s camp had requested the postponement of her initial appearance, citing a scheduling conflict with a House committee hearing. They also requested access to the complaint filed against her, related documents, and a list of questions the NBI intended to ask.
However, NBI Director Jaime Santiago stated that the agency would not provide Duterte with a list of questions in advance. He emphasized that should Duterte fail to appear on December 11th, the NBI would submit its gathered evidence to the Department of Justice for further action.
Duterte has previously defended her statement, claiming that her words were “maliciously taken out of logical context.”
