NC State Baseball Overpowers Richmond with Explosive Offense
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State Wolfpack unleashed a powerful offensive display against the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, February 25, 2025, securing a decisive victory at Doak Field at Dail Park. The final score was 5-1, according to ESPN.
The Wolfpack’s bats were relentless, recording 22 hits from 13 different players. NC State faced 45 batters, turning the game into a showcase of hitting prowess. They scored three or more runs in all but two innings, overwhelming the Spiders’ pitching staff, which cycled through eight different arms in an attempt to contain the attack.
Senior first baseman Dalton Bargo led the charge, delivering a five-RBI performance and going 4-for-6 at the plate. He also added his fourth home run of the season, continuing a hot start to the year. Junior designated hitter Chris McHugh joined Bargo in hitting a home run, sending a ball over the center field wall.
Sophomore shortstop Mikey Ryan and sophomore center fielder Ty Head also contributed home runs during a productive inning for the Wolfpack.
The sixth inning proved particularly damaging for Richmond, as NC State scored nine runs. The inning featured a string of base hits and walks, extending the frame to 13 batters.
Junior right-hander Heath Andrews provided a strong start on the mound for NC State, pitching six frames and striking out eight batters while allowing only one hit. Andrews’ performance demonstrated his reliability as a key arm in head coach Elliott Avent’s bullpen, earning him his first win of the season.
The game also provided an opportunity for three talented freshmen – shortstop Christian Serrano, catcher Vincent DeCarlo, and first baseman Quinn Bentley – to gain valuable experience. All three reached base, with DeCarlo and Bentley each recording two hits.
NC State excelled in two-out situations, going 13-for-21. This ability to extend innings proved to be a significant advantage.
The Wolfpack will return to action on Wednesday, February 25, against the Akron Zips at Doak Field, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
