Vincent Robinson, a former national champion and two-time All-American from NC State, announced his commitment to transfer to the University of Nebraska on April 15, 2026. Robinson confirmed the move via a post on Instagram, marking the first transfer portal commitment for the Nebraska wrestling program.
Robinson arrives at Nebraska with two years of eligibility remaining. He is expected to serve as an immediate starter in the 125-pound weight class for head coach Mark Manning.
Collegiate Career and Achievements
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Robinson established himself as a premier lightweight wrestler during his time at NC State. In 2025, he won the NCAA title at 125 pounds, becoming the first NC State freshman to secure a national championship since 1980. During that championship run, Robinson defeated Troy Spratley of Oklahoma State in the finals on March 22, 2025, in Philadelphia.
Robinson continued his success in 2026, earning his second All-American honor by finishing fourth at the NCAA Championships. His path to the fourth-place finish included a second-round loss to Troy Spratley in a rematch of the 2025 title bout. Following that loss, Robinson won five consecutive wrestleback matches before losing the third-place bout to Nico Provo of Stanford.
Over the past two seasons, Robinson compiled an overall record of 45-9, with a 21-4 record in dual meets. In the 2025-26 season specifically, he finished with a 21-6 record. Robinson also found success at the conference level as a two-time ACC medalist, finishing second in 2025 and third in 2026.
Impact on Nebraska’s Roster
The addition of Robinson addresses a period of instability in Nebraska’s 125-pound division. During the previous season, the weight class was shared between redshirt freshman Kael Lauridsen and sophomore Alan Koehler.
Lauridsen finished the season as an NCAA qualifier and a seventh-place representative in the Big Ten, though he posted a record of 17-13 with a 3-7 mark in dual meets. Koehler recorded a 10-13 record, including 2-9 in dual competition. Koehler entered the transfer portal on April 1, 2026 and had not yet committed to another program as of April 15, 2026.
Robinson’s commitment strengthens a Husker roster that now features multiple elite competitors for the 2026-27 season. In addition to Robinson, the roster includes NCAA champion Antrell Taylor at 157 pounds and returning runner-up Christopher Minto at 174 pounds.
