Box Butte General Hospital CEO Lori Mazanec Departs, Shelmadine Continues as Interim Leader
Lori Mazanec, Chief Executive Officer of Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska, will not return to her position. Her departure follows a medical leave that began in March 2024 and concludes with the expiration of her contract at the end of november.
Years of Service and Impact
Ms. Mazanec has been with Box Butte General Hospital since 2001, serving as CEO since 2016. During her tenure, she was instrumental in expanding hospital services, improving patient access to care, and cultivating a strong culture of excellence within the organization. The hospital announced her departure in a news release on October 2, 2024.
“lori has been a valued member of the BBGH family…we are deeply grateful for her dedication and the positive impact she has made,” the hospital stated in its official proclamation.

Brian Shelmadine, DO, PhD, currently serving as Chief Medical Officer, has been acting as interim CEO since June 12, 2024. The hospital confirmed that Dr. Shelmadine will continue in this role “for the foreseeable future.”
