Thousands Fleeing Kanlaon Eruption Find refuge at Panaad Park
Bacolod City, Philippines – As the Kanlaon Volcano continues to spew ash and rumble, thousands of residents are fleeing their homes in search of safety. In response to the growing crisis, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has ordered the preparation of the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan to house over 3,000 evacuees.
Provincial Administrator Rayfrando diaz II confirmed the governor’s directive on Wednesday, stating that the facility is being readied to provide shelter for displaced families for at least three weeks, or untill it is deemed safe for them to return home.
“Governor Lacson has prioritized the safety and well-being of our residents,” Diaz said. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that the Panaad Park and Stadium can provide a cozy and secure surroundings for those affected by the eruption.”
