Melbourne, Australia – In a heartbreaking announcement, beloved Australian actor Ian Smith, best known for his iconic role as Harold Bishop on the long-running soap opera Neighbours, has revealed he is battling terminal cancer.The 86-year-old actor shared the news in a candid interview with 10 News First, revealing he has a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer called pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma.
“I found out a few months back that I have cancer, that I have a very aggressive non-fixable cancer and thay expect me to die,” Smith told presenter Angela Bishop.
Despite the grim prognosis, Smith remains resolute to make the most of his remaining time. He has undergone three rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, hoping to prolong his life and maintain his quality of life.
“I’ve really put my hand up, I think, just to be a guinea pig, plus the fact I don’t want to die, I want to stay alive with quality as long as I can, and if they can do that I’m very happy,” he said.
