Nepal PM Oli Visits China Amidst Revised BRI Proposal
Kathmandu, Nepal – nepal prime Minister KP Sharma Oli embarked on a crucial five-day official visit to China on Monday, december 2nd. The visit comes as Beijing remains silent on Nepal’s revised proposal for the Belt and road Initiative (BRI) pact.Leading a delegation of over 87 members, oli’s visit is being closely watched for potential agreements to be signed in Beijing. Before departing, Oli, who also chairs the CPN-UML (Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist), held discussions with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior party officials regarding the new text of the “BRI framework for cooperation.”
This revised proposal, prepared by a joint taskforce from both parties, renames the “BRI implementation plan” to ”Framework for cooperation.” After receiving approval from the two senior leaders last week, Nepal’s foreign ministry sent the text to the Chinese Embassy on Saturday.
Oli’s visit, scheduled from December 2nd to 5th, is at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. During his four-day stay,Oli is slated to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and hold bilateral talks with Premier Li Keqiang. He will also engage with senior leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and deliver a keynote address at Peking University.
Confirming the details of the visit, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated, “Nepal’s Prime Minister Oli will pay an official visit to China from December 2 to 5 at the invitation of Premier Li Keqiang of the state Council.”
The Prime Minister’s entourage includes Foreign Affairs Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister Yuba Raj khatiwada, Members of Parliament, high-ranking government officials, representatives from the private sector, and media personnel.
This marks Oli’s first visit to a foreign nation since assuming power in July.
