Fresh off qualifying for last year’s T20 World Cup and nearly upsetting South Africa, the Nepal cricket team is setting its sights higher. Under coach Stuart Law, the team is now competing in a tri-series in Glasgow against Scotland and the Netherlands, with the goal of reaching both the 2026 T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup in 2027.
Nepal’s dramatic performances in Cricket World Cup League 2 matches have earned them the moniker “Cardiac Kids.” Fans recall a last-ball victory against Scotland, followed by a jubilant pitch invasion.
Skipper Rohit Paudel addressed the team’s role and reputation.”I guess it’s the way we have played our cricket for the past 10 years or so. Every game seems to go down to the wire,” Paudel said.
“So I think the name ‘cardiac kids’ comes because you never know how we can come back from a bad position to win a game. We are always fighting right until the end of a match even when the chance of winning might be small,” Paudel said.
Paudel also expressed hope for a future test match against England at Lord’s, recalling Nepal’s 2016 victory against MCC at the same venue. He believes such a match would be a proud moment for the contry and its cricket program.
