In a dramatic finish, Nepal pulled off a stunning upset against Scotland in their World Cup league 2 one-day international in Dundee. Nepal chased down Scotland’s 296-7, leveling the score on the final ball before securing victory with a wide.
The winning run triggered a pitch invasion by jubilant Nepal fans. This victory is especially sweet for Nepal, who had previously lost to a Scotland A side in a warm-up match.
Scotland, after being put in to bat, appeared to be in a strong position thanks to Charlie Tear’s 80 and Finlay McCreath’s 55. However, despite Khushal Bhurtel’s 55, Nepal faltered, slipping to 192-7. Then Karan KC turned the tide with a blistering, unbeaten 65 off just 41 deliveries, including four sixes.
The final over began with Nepal needing six runs. George Munsey caught Sandeep Lamichhane off Mark Watt’s initial delivery.A subsequent wide and a single left Karan KC needing five runs from three balls. He then hit two twos before Watt’s second wide sealed the unlikely victory for Nepal.
While replays suggested the decisive wide may have come off Karan’s pad, Nepal secured the points, defeating a Scotland team ranked higher in the world.
