Netanyahu Defends Gaza City Seizure Amid Condemnation
International Pressure Mounts as Israel Plans full-Scale Gaza Offensive

The international community is increasingly voicing concerns as Israel prepares for a full-scale military offensive in Gaza,a plan that threatens to exacerbate the already dire humanitarian crisis and endanger the remaining hostages held by Hamas. While facing mounting criticism, Israel maintains its right to security and blames Hamas for the ongoing conflict.
Growing Global Condemnation
Several European nations, including Spain, Portugal, and Norway, have jointly condemned Israel’s plan, warning it will worsen the humanitarian situation, jeopardize hostage negotiations, and result in a “unacceptable high toll of deaths and the forced displacement of nearly one million Palestinian civilians.” This unified front underscores the growing international anxiety over the escalating conflict.
Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Turkey have also expressed strong disapproval. Notably, Germany, a long-time staunch supporter of Israel, announced on Friday it will halt exports of military equipment to Israel that could be used in the Gaza Strip - a significant shift in policy signaling deep concern over the planned offensive. This decision reflects a growing reluctance among key allies to provide material support for operations that could lead to mass civilian casualties.
U.S. Stance and Hostage Negotiations
The United States, however, continues to defend israel’s right to self-defense. Dorothy Shea, the U.S.interim ambassador to the U.N., stated during a Security Council meeting on Sunday that “Israel has a right to decide what is necessary for its security, and what measures are appropriate to end the threat posed by Hamas and other similar groups.”
Shea further emphasized that the conflict could end immediately if Hamas were to release the hostages and relinquish control of Gaza. This statement reiterates the U.S. position that Hamas bears primary responsibility for the continuation of the war and the suffering of civilians.
Netanyahu Seeks Support from Trump
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with former President Donald Trump on Sunday, expressing gratitude for Trump’s “steadfast support for Israel since the start of the war.” Trump, when previously questioned about a potential Israeli occupation of all of Gaza, indicated the decision was “pretty much up to Israel,” suggesting a permissive stance towards Israel’s military objectives. This exchange highlights the continued importance of U.S.-Israel relations and the influence of political support from key figures.
The Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
The planned offensive comes as the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate rapidly. Images emerging from the region paint a harrowing picture of widespread suffering, particularly among children. One photograph, taken on August 3,2025,depicts 18-month-old Mohammad Al-Motawaq in a Gaza Strip tent, visibly malnourished with ribs protruding and limbs unusually thin - a stark illustration of the crisis unfolding on the ground. The potential for mass displacement and civilian casualties remains extremely high, fueling fears of a catastrophic humanitarian disaster. The international community’s growing condemnation reflects a desperate attempt to avert further suffering and find a path towards a peaceful resolution.
