TEL AVIV, KOMPAS.com – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to visit New York City in the near future despite threats of arrest from new York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
this statement was made several weeks after he received an invitation to come to the city on January 1, the day Mamdani was inaugurated as Mayor of New York.
Even though he said he would not be able to attend on that date, Netanyahu emphasized his intention to still visit New York at a later date.

Invitation from the New York City Council
Reported The New York Post on Saturday, December 21, 2025, an invitation to Netanyahu was delivered by a member of the New York City Council from Brooklyn, Inna Vernikov.
The invitation was said to be a response to Mamdani’s statement during the campaign promising to arrest Netanyahu if the Israeli leader set foot in New York.
Vernikov said she was curious to see Mamdani’s reaction if Netanyahu really came to town.
Additionally, she said, the invitation was intended to “reaffirm the deep and enduring ties” between New York City and Israel.
She added that the Jewish community would welcome Netanyahu’s visit.
“I look forward to seeing Benjamin Netanyahu in New york City and the Jewish community will be happy to welcome him, amidst surging antisemitism at home and around the world,” Vernikov said.
