Netherlands Defeats Hungary 4-0 in Nations League Showdown
The Netherlands secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Hungary in their crucial Nations League match on Saturday. Both teams entered the game tied with five points, and the winner would join Germany in the quarter-finals from Group A3.
Wout Weghorst and Cody Gakpo scored first-half penalties, putting the Netherlands in a strong position. In the second half, Denzel Dumfries and Teun Koopmeiners added two more goals to solidify the win.
Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk expressed pride in the team’s performance, saying, “There are always things we can improve upon. But in the end, we deserved to win.”
The match took place at the Johan Cruyff Arena and was briefly paused due to a medical emergency involving Hungary’s assistant coach Adam Szalai. He received treatment on the field and was taken to a hospital but remains in a stable condition.
Gakpo commented on the incident, emphasizing that health is more important than football.
In the game, Weghorst converted a penalty after a handball by Hungary’s Tamas Nikitscher. Gakpo followed up with another penalty, extending the lead to two goals just before halftime. Dumfries scored the third goal early in the second half, with Koopmeiners sealing the match with a fourth in the 86th minute.
Meanwhile, Germany dominated their match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, winning 7-0. This result secured Germany’s position at the top of Group A3.
German player Jamal Musiala highlighted the team’s offensive success and enjoyment on the pitch. He opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, with Tim Kleindienst and Kai Havertz contributing to the total.
Both the Netherlands and Germany will proceed to the quarter-finals, showcasing their strong performances in the Nations League.
