The interactive gaming platform Roblox has reached a settlement with the state of Nevada to implement enhanced protections for young users and pay more than $12 million. The agreement, announced by Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford on April 15, 2026, was reached in lieu of litigation over the company’s child-safety standards.
As part of the financial terms of the settlement, Roblox will provide $10 million over a period of three years to support nondigital activities and programs such as the Boys and Girls Club. The company will fund an online safety awareness campaign and a law enforcement liaison position dedicated to responding to safety concerns regarding the platform.
New Safety Protections for Minors
The settlement mandates several specific platform changes designed to increase the safety of children, and teens. Roblox will now require age verification for all users and implement restrictions on nighttime notifications for minors. The agreement also includes limits on chat functionalities to further protect young users.
The platform is widely used by youth, with nearly half of children under the age of 16 in the United States utilizing the service.
Aaron Ford, attorney general of Nevada
This settlement will create a safer environment for our children online, and I hope that it will serve as a bellwether for how online interactive platforms allow our state’s youth to use their products,
Corporate and Legal Context
Matt Kaufman, the chief safety officer for Roblox, stated that the company is proud to have worked with Attorney General Ford to reach the agreement, which he described as a landmark that builds on the company’s efforts to establish a new standard for digital safety.
While the Nevada settlement resolves specific claims in that state, Roblox continues to face litigation in other jurisdictions. Prosecutors in Texas and Kentucky have filed lawsuits alleging that the platform fails to protect children.
These legal challenges are part of a broader trend in which prosecutors are filing lawsuits against various social media and interactive companies regarding the role these platforms play in the lives of children.
