I played QB when I was, like, playing little league football, but never in high school,
Marshaun Brown said as reported on the October 24 matchup at Mackay Stadium. So I mean, you know, they just saw me, you know, throwing the ball at practice.
The Nevada Wolf Pack defeated the San Jose State Spartans 28-13 in their homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 24, securing their second home win of the season. Senior quarterback Luke Duncan made his second start of the season after injuries sidelined both Carter Jones and AJ Bianco in previous weeks. Duncan completed 18/29 of his passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception.
Duncan Returns to Command Wolf Pack Offense
Nevada head coach Jeff Choate praised Duncan’s poise following the victory. Candidly, that was a tough situation he was put into,
Choate said, referencing Duncan’s earlier start against Montana State after a multi-interception performance. Choate lauded the senior’s preparation and mental toughness.

Duncan connected with Marshaun Brown for an opening 4-yard score during a 64-yard drive in the first quarter. Later in the contest, Duncan found Trace Estes for a 15-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to extend Nevada’s lead to 14-3. Brown also contributed a 32-yard trick-play completion to running back Herschel Turner in the fourth quarter for his first career pass as a wide receiver.
Defense Stifles Spartans as Ioane Scheme Dominates
Nevada’s defense controlled the line of scrimmage, limiting San Jose State to just 204 total yards of offense. Senior EDGE Dylan LaBarbera forced an early three-and-out with a crucial third-down sack and added pressure throughout the contest. Junior defensive back Bryson Snelling recorded four tackles and two passes defended, helping restrict the Spartans to a 1-14 third down efficiency.
I think we knew they were going to be a passing team,
Snelling said. So we wanted to start fast and kind of bring some energy to the team.
Choate added praise for his defensive staff, remarking that defensive coordinator Kane Ioane seemingly had San Jose State’s offensive coordinator’s number.
Trot to Pasadena Against No. 7 UCLA Bruins
The victory improves Nevada’s record to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while San Jose State falls to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in conference action. The game also marked the athletic debut of the newly released University of Nevada, Reno logo on the team helmets.
The Wolf Pack will hit the road next week to face the No. 7 University of California, Los Angeles Bruins at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, on Oct. 31 at 1:15 pm.
