Nevada Governor Orders Flags to Half-Staff at State Buildings
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has ordered all flags at the Nevada State Capitol and state public buildings to fly at half-staff on Monday, August 17, 2026. The proclamation honors Christopher V. Andersen, a helitack pilot who was killed while fighting the Widemouth 2 Fire.
According to the Governor’s office, the flags will remain lowered from sunrise to sunset in tribute to Andersen’s service and sacrifice. State officials emphasized the inherent risks faced by aerial firefighting crews operating in rugged terrain.
Andersen was piloting an aircraft assigned to suppression efforts on the Widemouth 2 Fire when the fatal crash occurred. The incident has drawn mourning from emergency response agencies across the region as investigators work to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the accident.
Official details regarding the ongoing investigation into the crash are coordinated through state and federal aviation safety authorities. Further updates will be provided as investigative findings are released to the public.
