Nevermore rises Again? Founding Bassist Slams reunion Plans
Seattle, WA – The future of legendary metal band Nevermore hangs in the balance after a bitter public dispute erupted between founding bassist Jim Sheppard and guitarist Jeff loomis. Sheppard has accused Loomis and drummer Van Williams of disrespectfully planning a Nevermore reunion without his involvement.
The controversy began when Williams hinted at a Nevermore revival on social media, sparking outrage from Sheppard and his wife,Priscila. In a statement posted on Facebook, Priscila Sheppard stated, “James has never been contacted about Van’s plans with Jeff using the Nevermore name.We do not know about their plans, and it is completely disrespectful of them to use the name Nevermore without consulting Jim Sheppard, as he is one of the founders of the band.”
The news comes as a shock to many fans, especially considering Loomis’s previous statements about the band’s future. In a 2019 interview, Loomis expressed his belief that Nevermore was “simply because of all the musicians that were in that at the time,” and that without Warrel Dane, the band’s iconic vocalist who passed away in 2017, a reunion was “not feasible.”
Nevermore officially disbanded in 2011 after loomis and Williams left the band due to personal differences with Dane and Sheppard. Dane later tragically died from a heart attack while recording his solo album, “Shadow Work.”
The band’s legacy, marked by their unique blend of progressive metal and melodic death metal, continues to resonate with fans worldwide. though, the current rift between its surviving members threatens to overshadow their musical achievements.
As the situation unfolds, fans are left wondering if Nevermore will truly rise again, and if so, in what form. Will Sheppard be involved? Can the band recapture its former glory without Dane’s powerful vocals? Only time will tell.

Former Nevermore Guitarist Jeff Loomis Reflects on Dane’s Legacy and Struggles
The metal community is reeling from the loss of Warrel Dane, the powerful vocalist known for his work with the influential band Nevermore. Dane, 56, passed away on December 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of soaring vocals and dark, progressive metal anthems.
former Nevermore guitarist Jeff Loomis, who now plays with arch Enemy, spoke candidly about dane’s passing in a recent interview. “It’s a very sad loss to the music community,” Loomis said. “He’ll be well remembered as one of the great vocalists of a metal era.”
Loomis revealed that Dane had been battling personal demons for years. “He had been struggling with drinking and things like this for a long time,” Loomis shared. “I’m not getting into too much detail there. he had some troubles. I’m gonna miss him a lot. He was a great friend of mine and he was a wonderful human being.”
The news of Dane’s death has sparked discussions among fans about the possibility of a Nevermore reunion.Loomis, however, explained that the band’s chapter had effectively closed after his departure in 2014.
“I think that onc you do something for such a long time and you make your mark in the music world, sometimes things do have to come to an end,” Loomis reflected. “And, unfortunately, with my situation with Nevermore, after 18 years of being in the band, it marked kind of an end of an area. And for me personally, it was kind of moving on to another chapter in my life.”
While there were talks of a reunion show in late 2016, it never materialized. Now,with Dane’s passing, the possibility of a Nevermore reunion is sadly gone forever.
Loomis, who amicably parted ways with Arch Enemy in December 2023, was a key figure in Nevermore’s sound, serving as the band’s primary songwriter. He joined Arch Enemy in late 2014 but was not involved in the writng process for their last two albums,”Will To Power” (2017) and ”Deceivers” (2022).
Warrel Dane’s powerful voice and unique stage presence will be deeply missed by fans worldwide. His music will continue to inspire and resonate with metalheads for generations to come.
