Goodwood Brewing has closed its operations in Lexington, Frankfort, and O’Fallon, Missouri, following a series of financial failures and legal disputes. The locations have been taken over by Ted Bertuca Jr., owner of Louisville’s Doc Crow’s Southern Smokehouse &. Raw Bar, who launched a new concept called Doc Crow’s Social at the sites on April 22, 2026.
The transition follows a period of instability for Goodwood Brewing, which saw the abrupt closure of two Louisville locations on March 30, 2026. At that time, owner Ted Mitzlaff stated in an email to the Lexington Herald-Leader that the company was undergoing a major reorganization
and asserted that the Lexington and Frankfort locations remained full steam ahead
.
Financial Collapse and Legal Action
The closure of the remaining sites comes amid mounting lawsuits involving unpaid rent, vendor debts, and back taxes. In a separate legal development involving the Owensboro location, Daviess Circuit Court Judge David Payne ordered Mitzlaff and a business partner to pay nearly $100,000 and issued an order restraining them from removing assets from the property.
As of May 2, 2026, the Goodwood Brewing website is offline, and the restaurants are listed as permanently closed on Google. Mitzlaff has not responded to requests for comment regarding the total cessation of these operations.
New Management and Concept
Ted Bertuca Jr. Reached an agreement to take over the leases for the Lexington, Frankfort, and Missouri sites after three and a half weeks of negotiations with the landlord and Mitzlaff’s attorney. Bertuca noted that he never met Mitzlaff during the process.
The new venture, Doc Crow’s Social, operates at the following addresses:
- 200 Lexington Green Circle Unit 100, Lexington
- 109 W. Main St., Frankfort
- 108 S. Main St., O’Fallon, Missouri
Bertuca confirmed that the new establishments have retained staff at all three locations. While his Louisville restaurant is known for an extensive collection of premium and vintage bourbons, the Social concept will feature a more streamlined offering.
“There will be burgers, wings, wraps, salads, a little bit of barbecue and some specialty bourbon, (but) not as many,”
Ted Bertuca Jr., owner of Doc Crow’s Social
Bertuca, who previously operated nearly two dozen McDonald’s franchises in Nashville with his father, Ted Sr., stated that signage at the Lexington Green location was expected to be updated by the end of the week of April 28, 2026.
The takeover is limited to these three specific sites. Bertuca clarified that Doc Crow’s is not taking over the closed Louisville locations, nor is it pursuing Goodwood’s previously planned expansions into Bowling Green or Somerset.
