Incoming Lancashire Chief Executive Richard Kenyon will take charge of a comprehensive review of the club’s cricket operations and performance structures when he officially assumes his role on 5 October. Kenyon transitions to Old Trafford following a ten-month tenure as chief executive at Nottinghamshire and more than a decade in leadership at Everton Football Club, succeeding outgoing chief executive Daniel Gidney.
Comprehensive Review Targets Performance Environment
That leadership shift confirmed the departures of director of cricket performance Mark Chilton and director of women’s cricket David Thorley. Kenyon’s assessment will examine Lancashire’s overall performance environment, including resource allocation, funding, staff and player contracts, and the structural pipeline supporting players moving from the academy into the first team. During this transition throughout October, Kenyon will work alongside Gidney to ensure a comprehensive handover before taking sole executive control.
Addressing On-Field Struggles Across All Formats
The leadership changes and subsequent review follow a difficult domestic campaign for Lancashire across all three major English men’s competitions. The team finished second from the bottom in Division Two of the County Championship, placed bottom of the T20 Blast table, and failed to advance past the group stage in the One-Day Cup. Club chairperson Dame Sarah Storey emphasized the urgency of the situation in a statement published on the club’s official website.
Richard’s arrival comes at an important moment for the club. Among other items, as Lancashire Cricket’s new CEO, he will need to take a clear and objective look at our performance operation and what needs to change to improve results, particularly for our men’s side.

Storey added that stakeholders across the organization share high ambitions for the professional squads, noting that the club must take stock of what is required to deliver competitive performances across all formats under the guidance of its recently published Cricket Vision framework.
