New duet from George Michael and Elton John could be on the way

Andros Georgiou is seeking permission from Sir Elton John to finalize and release a lost duet titled This Kind Of Love. The track has sat unfinished for more than three decades, consisting of separate vocal recordings from both artists.

A Three-Decade Wait for ‘This Kind Of Love’

Georgiou, the former manager of George Michael, revealed the recording’s existence in The Sun’s Bizarre column. The disclosure comes as he promotes Trojan Souls, an upcoming film centering on Michael’s shelved 1993 album. That project, which was stalled by record label disputes, was intended to feature collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Sade, Seal, and Aretha Franklin.

The duet with Elton John took priority. Georgiou currently holds the individual vocal tracks and plans to merge them into a completed production.

I’ve got George singing the track and Elton singing the track, so the dream is to make another track. I would have to ask Elton’s permission to put the vocals together. I’m sure Elton would say yes because he was blown away by the song and was a huge supporter of George, Georgiou told The Sun.

Unseen Footage and Streaming Ambitions

The archival discoveries extend beyond the recording studio. Georgiou says he possesses an unseen interview with Sir Elton John, which he is holding for a potential deal with a streaming service like Apple once the Trojan Souls film is acquired.

In that footage, Georgiou claims Sir Elton expressed a willingness to literally do anything for George, underscoring a profound personal and professional connection.

A Legacy of Chart-Topping Collaboration

The prospect of a new release adds to a storied partnership. The two icons first shared the stage at Live Aid in 1985 and later dominated the charts with their remake of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me in the 1990s.

Since George Michael died from heart and liver disease on December 25, 2016, Sir Elton has remained a vocal champion of his legacy. He described Michael as the most generous man and one of the most brilliant songwriters this country’s ever produced.

Honoring ‘One of Britain’s Most Fantastic Artists’

That admiration continued into 2023. During his Glastonbury headline set—timed to coincide with what would have been Michael’s 60th birthday—Sir Elton called him one of Britain’s most fantastic singers, songwriters, and artists before performing Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

Other peers echo this sentiment. Andrew Ridgeley, Michael’s former WHAM! bandmate, told NME that the music remains timeless because it speaks to core human emotions.

Ridgeley spoke these words during the 2026 Ivor Novellos while accepting the Academy Fellowship on Michael’s behalf. It is the highest honor granted by The Ivors Academy, a distinction previously held by U2, Sting, Kate Bush, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John.
