Blue Origin New Glenn Rocket Launch Faces Delays, Reduced Targets
Updated June 10, 2025
Blue Origin is scaling back its enterprising launch plans for the New Glenn rocket, according to recent reports.CEO Dave Limp addressed employees, acknowledging the company would fall far short of its initial goals for the year. The New Glenn rocket, a key component of Blue Origin’s space program, is experiencing launch delays.
At the start of 2025, Limp, along with founder Jeff Bezos, had set a target of eight New glenn launches. However, five months after a mostly successful debut in January, the company has only managed one launch. A second launch, initially targeted for late spring, is now scheduled for no earlier than Aug. 15, Limp said via social media. It is possible this will be the only other launch this year.
The upcoming mission, dubbed “Never Tell Me the Odds,” will focus on landing and recovering the booster. This secondary_keyword_1 is a critical objective for Blue origin as it aims to improve the reusability and cost-effectiveness of its rockets. The company is still on track to produce eight Glenn Stage 2 (GS2) units this year, matching the original launch cadence. This secondary_keyword_2 production metric may be an attempt to reassure Bezos, who sources say was unhappy with the reduced launch target.
One source familiar with the program suggested that even the August launch date may be optimistic, with September being a more realistic timeframe. The payload for this second flight is expected to include NASA’s ESCAPADE mission. the New Glenn rocket is vital for Blue Origin’s future plans in the competitive space launch market.
“One of our key mission objectives will be to land and recover the booster. This will take a little bit of luck and a lot of excellent execution. We’re on track to produce eight GS2s this year, and the one we’ll fly on this second mission was hot-fired in April.”
What’s next
Blue Origin will focus on achieving a successful second launch of the New Glenn rocket in August, with a key emphasis on booster recovery. The company aims to demonstrate its capabilities in reusable rocket technology and maintain its position in the evolving space industry. The primary_keyword is the New Glenn rocket.
