Hyundai Tucson Facelift: What to Expect from the Updated SUV
Table of Contents
The Hyundai Tucson is a hugely important model for the brand, selling in vast numbers across the globe. And it’s about to get a critically important update. We’ve got all the details on what you can expect from the refreshed Tucson, from its interior tweaks to its advanced hybrid powertrains.
What’s New with the Tucson’s Interior?
Hyundai is focusing on simplifying and refining the Tucson’s interior experience. A key change is a move away from touch-sensitive controls. In a world of increasingly digital dashboards, Hyundai is opting for a more tactile approach.
According to Simon Loasby, Hyundai’s Head of Design, ”We believe nine is the best number of both legal and physical, regular interactions.” These interactions will all be physical buttons, a deliberate choice to allow drivers to adjust settings without taking their eyes off the road. This is a welcome move for many drivers who find touchscreens distracting.
beyond the controls, the Tucson will retain its spacious and versatile five-seat interior, offering plenty of rear legroom and a generous boot. It’s a practical family SUV, and Hyundai isn’t sacrificing that.
Hybrid Powertrains Take Center Stage
Given the Tucson’s global appeal, Hyundai will offer a range of powertrains. However, hybrid options will be prioritized, particularly in the UK and Europe. You can expect a comprehensive selection, including:
Mild-Hybrid: A great entry point into hybrid technology, offering improved fuel efficiency.
Plug-in Hybrid: allowing for electric-only driving for shorter journeys, reducing your carbon footprint.
Full-Hybrid: The most significant addition, offering a blend of petrol and electric power for optimal efficiency.
Hyundai has developed a new generation of full-hybrid systems in-house, designed for its next-generation models. this system combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two e-motors: a larger one integrated into the gearbox and a smaller one acting as a starter generator.
Hyundai claims this new powertrain delivers a more than four per cent enhancement in efficiency compared to the previous system, alongside increased torque and enhanced driveability. While peak power figures are still to be confirmed, torque will reach 380Nm – a 13Nm increase over the previous hybrid setup.
No Full Electric, But a Hot ‘N’ Model is Possible
Don’t expect a fully electric Tucson just yet. If you’re looking for an all-electric hyundai, the Ioniq 4 is the model to consider. However, there’s exciting news for performance enthusiasts. Hyundai is hinting at a high-performance ‘N’ model, equipped with a more powerful and sophisticated hybrid powertrain. This could bring a thrilling driving experience to the Tucson range.
