Instagram is introducing new features to improve connection through direct messages (DMs). These updates include 17 new sticker packs, customizable nicknames for users and friends, and location sharing. These additions aim to enhance communication and make meeting up more convenient.
Say It with Stickers
Instagram now offers 17 new sticker packs containing over 300 stickers for DMs. Use these stickers to express feelings or reactions when words aren’t enough. You can also favorite stickers from chats to reuse later.
Nicknames for You and Your Friends
You can personalize chat names by setting nicknames for yourself or your friends. This feature allows you to simplify long usernames or share inside jokes. To set a nickname, tap the chat name at the top of the conversation, then select “Nicknames” and choose the user. Nicknames are visible only in DMs and won’t affect usernames elsewhere on Instagram.
Location Sharing Made Easier
You can now share your live location in DMs for up to 1 hour. This feature helps arrange meet-ups and coordinate plans with friends at crowded events. You can share your location privately in 1:1 or group chats. Your location will not be visible to others outside of the chat, and you can stop sharing at any time. Please be mindful of your privacy when using this feature.
Location sharing is currently available only in select countries.
