New MacBook Neo and M5 MacBook Pro: Release Date and Specs Leak

Apple has expanded its laptop ecosystem with the launch of MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and the introduction of a budget-oriented model called the MacBook Neo.

The new MacBook Pro models, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, became available to customers on March 11, 2026. These machines utilize a Fusion Architecture that combines two 3nm dies to drive performance increases over previous hardware.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Technical Specifications

According to reporting from Macworld, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips deliver 30% faster CPU performance and up to 50% better graphics than the M4 predecessors. The updated GPU includes a Neural Accelerator in each core, which Apple claims results in up to 4x AI performance compared to the previous generation and up to 8x AI performance compared to M1 models.

The hardware includes several connectivity and utility upgrades:

• An Apple-designed N1 wireless networking chip that enables Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
• Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.
• A 12MP Center Stage camera and a six-speaker sound system.
• A Liquid Retina XDR display with an available nano-texture option.
• Battery life reaching up to 24 hours.

Storage configurations have also been increased. M5 Pro models now start with 1TB of storage, while M5 Max models start with 2TB. Apple states that these new models feature SSD speeds up to 2x faster than previous generations.

In the United States, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,199, with an education price of $2,049. The 16-inch M5 Pro model starts at $2,699, with an education price of $2,499.

Introduction of the MacBook Neo

Apple has also announced the MacBook Neo, a budget-friendly addition to the lineup. According to Mashable, the MacBook Neo starts at $599 and is available in four colors.

The MacBook Neo, along with new MacBook Air and Pro models, has passed electronic inspections by the National Communications Commission (NCC). Based on these regulatory filings, these models are expected to be available for sale in Taiwan as early as mid-April 2026.

Additional reports indicate that Apple is expanding its product line with four new MacBook models that emphasize performance and the integration of OLED screens.

Performance Reports and Market Feedback

While the M5 series introduces significant architectural gains, some early reports have highlighted performance inconsistencies. Reporting from 電腦王阿達 indicates that some versions of the M5 Max MacBook Pro have been found to have defects resulting in multi-core performance gaps of up to 41.5%.

The new MacBook Pro lineup is available in space black and silver and runs on macOS Tahoe.
