Apple is planning to release a second-generation MacBook Neo in 2027, according to reports from supply chain sources and industry analysts. The upcoming laptop is expected to feature a significant hardware upgrade, transitioning to the A19 Pro chip and increasing the base memory capacity.
According to Taiwan-based tech columnist and former Bloomberg reporter Tim Culpan, the new MacBook Neo will be equipped with a version of the A19 Pro chip, which is the same processor used in the iPhone 17 Pro models. This shift in silicon is expected to bring the device’s unified memory up to 12GB, a notable increase from the 8GB of RAM found in the current model.
Technical Specifications and GPU Configuration
While the A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro features a 6-core GPU, Culpan expects Apple to utilize a binned
version of the chip for the MacBook Neo. Binned chips are processors where certain cores are disabled to manage yields or performance tiers.
The expected binned version for the laptop will feature a 5-core GPU. Because the current MacBook Neo also utilizes a 5-core GPU, this specific aspect of the graphics hardware will remain unchanged despite the processor upgrade.
The current generation of the MacBook Neo, which was unveiled in early March 2026, is powered by the A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM.
Production and Market Demand
The MacBook Neo has seen strong initial market reception. A report from DigiTimes on April 7, 2026, notes that the device is currently assembled in China and Vietnam.

Due to sales surpassing expectations, Culpan reports that Apple is in discussions with suppliers to potentially increase production. However, he noted that the company is currently facing a massive dilemma
as a result of this unexpected demand.
The Status of Touch Screen Integration
There has been conflicting information regarding whether the second-generation MacBook Neo will include a touch screen. In September 2025, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that touch support could
be included, with the touch layer integrated into the IPS panel to maintain the laptop’s thickness.
However, more recent reports indicate Here’s unlikely. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman stated on March 15, 2026, that Apple has not yet decided whether to bring touch-screen support to any Macs outside of a high-end MacBook Pro expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
Gurman noted that adding a touch screen would increase the manufacturing cost of the MacBook Neo, which is priced as low as $499. He expressed significant doubt that a touch screen would arrive for the Neo within the next three years.
Summary of Expected Changes
- Processor: Upgrade from A18 Pro to A19 Pro.
- Memory: Increase from 8GB to 12GB of unified memory.
- GPU: Expected to remain at 5 cores via a binned A19 Pro chip.
- Display: Likely to remain non-touch to maintain the entry-level price point.
- Release Window: Expected in 2027.
