Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico United and the University of New Mexico have announced a joint fan fest event titled “Football meets Fútbol: Fan Fiesta,” scheduled to take place at UNM’s Louie Lane on April 25, 2026. The collaboration aims to celebrate the growing intersection of American football and soccer cultures in New Mexico by bringing together fans of both sports for a family-friendly afternoon of activities, exhibitions, and community engagement.

The event will feature interactive zones where attendees can test their skills in both football and soccer, including kicking accuracy challenges, agility drills, and small-sided games. Local youth teams from both sports will participate in exhibition matches throughout the day, showcasing talent from Albuquerque-area clubs and UNM’s collegiate programs. Food trucks offering regional cuisine, live music from New Mexico artists, and appearances by players and coaches from New Mexico United and the UNM Lobos football and soccer teams are also planned.

Officials from both organizations emphasized the event’s role in strengthening community ties and promoting sports participation across age groups. “This is more than just a crossover event — it’s about creating shared spaces where fans of all ages can connect through their love of the game, whether it’s played with an oval ball or a round one,” said a representative from New Mexico United’s community outreach department. The University of New Mexico echoed this sentiment, noting that Louie Lane has increasingly become a hub for multi-sport programming and student engagement initiatives.

Louie Lane, located on the south end of UNM’s main campus, has hosted various athletic and community events in recent years, including youth soccer tournaments, football clinics, and cultural festivals. The venue’s open layout and proximity to both the UNM Soccer Complex and the football practice fields make it well-suited for hybrid events that bridge different athletic traditions. Organizers expect several thousand attendees based on pre-event registration and outreach through local schools, youth leagues, and fan networks.

Both New Mexico United and UNM have seen increased interest in cross-promotional efforts in recent seasons, particularly as Major League Soccer’s influence expands in the Southwest and collegiate athletics seek deeper community integration. While no formal partnership beyond this event has been announced, officials indicated openness to future collaborations that highlight the shared values of teamwork, discipline, and regional pride inherent in both sports.

The Fan Fiesta is free and open to the public, with activities beginning at 11:00 a.m. And concluding at 4:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, and limited shaded areas will be available. Event staff confirmed that water stations, first aid services, and accessibility accommodations will be in place throughout the day. Further details, including a full schedule of activities and participant lists, are available through the official websites of New Mexico United and the University of New Mexico Athletics Department.
