ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United has signed forward Joseph Melto Quiah, the club announced Thursday, pending league and federation approval. The 21-year-old Liberian joins United ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season, bringing with him a promising track record from both collegiate and professional play.
“Joseph is an exciting young prospect,” said New Mexico United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “He came into our preseason and showed some real attacking quality. We’re excited to have him join New Mexico United.”
Quiah’s path to New Mexico includes a recent stint with Toronto FC II of MLS NEXT Pro, following his selection by Toronto FC in the third round of the 2025 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Prior to turning professional, Quiah established himself as a standout player at the University of Dayton.
During his three seasons with the Flyers, Quiah tallied 14 goals and 16 assists in 47 appearances, starting 43 of those matches. His senior year in 2024 was particularly impressive, as he recorded a career-high eight goals and six assists. This performance earned him recognition as a United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team selection, as well as a First Team All-Southeast Region and All-Atlantic 10 Conference honoree.
Quiah’s soccer journey began in his native Montserrado, Liberia, where he debuted with the senior national team at the remarkably young age of 16 while playing for LISCR FC. He also represented Liberia at the U-17 and U-20 levels. His early success in Liberia paved the way for his move to the United States to pursue collegiate soccer.
Standing at 5-foot-11, Quiah is described as an attacking player who brings speed, versatility and creativity to the field. New Mexico United is hoping he will contribute significantly to their offense as they build their roster for the upcoming 2026 season. The signing represents an investment in young talent and a potential boost to the club’s attacking options.
The addition of Quiah adds another international dimension to New Mexico United’s squad. His experience playing for the Liberian national team, coupled with his collegiate success and brief professional experience in North America, suggests a player with a diverse skillset and a growing understanding of the game.
While financial details of the transfer from Toronto FC II were not disclosed, the move signifies a new chapter for Quiah as he aims to establish himself in the USL Championship. He will be looking to build on his collegiate achievements and translate his attacking prowess to the professional ranks with New Mexico United.
