As You Like It Miniseries Adaptation Funded

“As You Like It,” a new miniseries adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy, will be produced by Apocalyptic Artists Ensemble. This project is part of a group of 72 initiatives that have received funding from the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre. This fund addresses the underrepresentation of women in media and entertainment.

Launched in 2018, the NYC Women’s Fund began with a $5 million investment from the City of New York. It has since expanded, making a total investment of $10 million by 2023. The fund has financed 415 women-led projects, including 72 projects in 2024 alone.

The adaptation of “As You Like It” is directed by Kea Trevett and produced by Brynne McManimie. It features an ensemble cast, including Janice Amaya, Damian Thompson, and Tom Nelis. The miniseries will premiere in NYC schools in Fall 2025. This initiative aims to offer free theater workshops and professional productions of classic plays to NYC students.

A total of $1.3 million has been awarded across various artistic projects, with specific funding amounts designated for different categories. General Music received funding for 12 projects, Theatre Productions for 14 projects, and several other categories ranging from documentary features to fiction shorts.

A panel of 48 industry experts evaluated over 1,100 submissions for these grants. The panel included notable figures such as Karen McMullen and Roselly Torres.
